I had the pleasure of visiting a black owned restaurant in Montclair New Jersey called Sweet T’s Southern Eatery. Sweet T’s is located at 387 Bloomfield Ave, Montclair NJ 07042.
Sweet T’s is such a cute, small, vibrant establishment. I loved the decor. What I loved most about the restaurant was the chandeliers. The chandeliers was painted by the owners in their bath tub. Like how amazing is that. A lovely personal touch.
Now let’s get into the food. Before I forget to mention, this establishment is BYOB (bring your own bottle). I forgot to bring my own, but I did see others have their wine bottle chilled. I ordered the peach cobbler sweet tea and my date ordered the sweet tea drink. The drink is warm with the first sip, so just turn it so it gets cold. There is NO free refill on the sweet tea drinks FYI. The food is healthy southern food. For starters, we ordered the cornbread that comes with a strawberry butter and fried okra. LET ME TELL YOU that cornbread was DELICIOUS! Not everyone can make cornbread. I was amazed at how thick the cornbread was and how the sides of the cornbread were toasted. Like who toasts cornbread? The strawberry butter was delicious as well. The Georgia style okra was good too! I love okra but I didn’t think I would enjoy it fried.
Now to our entree. I ordered the Birmingham salmon (baked in bbq sauce). It came with two sides. I ordered candied yams and shrimp mac and cheese. Since I ordered shrimp mac and cheese, I was told I could get an extra side. I forgot what the reason was. I was just excited to get another side (I’m a foodie LOL). I ordered a side salad. My date ordered smothered turkey wings, collard greens, potato salad, grits, mac and cheese, and cornbread dressing stuffing. WHEW. Our table was full. I loved everything on my plate. EVERYTHING! I was very pleased with the grits. I do not like grits at all, but the grits here was GOODT! The grits is not made with water. It is made with milk. Never have I ever heard of that. It was so thick and good lol. The potato salad was also good. We all know not everyone can make potato salad. It was enjoyable. I couldn’t dig in the cornbread stuffing or collard greens because there is meat in it, and I don’t eat meat.
Stuffed! We ordered dessert to go. We had the sweet three berry cobbler and the sweet banana pudding. Both desserts were good.
On Sunday’s Sweet T’s has live performances. The Sunday I went we had the pleasure to have @phearnone; a dj mc violist. He was good. Everyone was enjoying the music.
Would I return? Definitely! I rate Sweet T’s southern eatery a 10/10.
